MONTPELIER, Vt. - Vermont lawmakers are working to get more funding for Green Up Vermont through the generosity of taxpayers.
The President of Green Up Vermont Melina Vieux says they're struggling to hit their funding goals.
A bill that passed in the Vermont House on Friday would give Vermonters the option to donate to Green up Vermont on their income tax form. Organizers hope this option will help them reach their funding goal.
"If Green Up Day can have a source of funds which adds up to about fifty thousand in a few years it could as somebody said hum along for another half a century," Vieux says.
If the bill passes the senate, Vermonters would have the opportunity to donate starting in 2015.
