Bus Driver Killed in Route 22A Crash

Route 22A is back open following a serious crash Friday night.
West Haven, Vt.– One man died following a mass casualty incident Friday night.

The call for the crash came in at 8:02 p.m., police say a tractor trailer and tour bus collided. Poilce say the tour bus was from Triple D Travel out of New Jersey, heading north to Sugarbush and Stowe. The trucking company was JP Logistics and hauling K-cup coffee products, heading
south.

Police say the trailer until jacknifed and stopped on Route 22A, while the northbound bus with 32 people on board crested the hill, lost control, and struck the trailer after coming into contact with the guard rails.

The driver was pinned within the bus.  Two passengers sustained moderate injuries and the remaining passengers all sustained minor injuries. Eight patients were transported to Porter Hospital in Middlebury and 24 patients, including the operator of the tractor trailer were transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center.

The operator of the bus, identified as Darnell Hannah, age 59, from Millstone, NJ died as a result of his injuries.

The tractor trailer driver is Haroon Kalid, age 34, of Scotrun, PA.

Police say the roads were ice covered at the time.

The road was closed for several hours, and was traffic rerouted, while patients were transported to local hospitals and emergency personnel cleared the vehicles from the scene.
