Vermont State Parks are wrapping up the summer season with numbers a little lower than last year.
Director Craig Whipple says early in the summer, state parks were seeing 25 percent less traffic from last year because of rainy weather. Since July fourth it's looking better. State parks are only six percent down.
Nearly half of the campgrounds closed today for the fall season.
Whipple says it's to keep the most visited parks, more staffed.
“What we do is consolidate that activity into the most popular parks and we close some of the others. It’s a seasonal cycle,” Whipple said.
