MILTON, Vt. - School may be out for summer, but that means some Vermont students aren't getting daily meals. That's why Milton's school launched a summer food service kickoff event to spread awareness for child nutrition.
There was facepainting, fun and plenty of food at the barbeque.
Hunger Free Vermont was there to give information about where and when a child can get a free meal over the summer.
"Child nutrition is about making sure the kids are eating enough," Child Nutrition Advocate Derrick Lambert said. "It's about making sure they're eating the right things, and the summer food service addresses both of those."
If you're child is younger than 18, they can get a free meal in Chittenden county from now until mid-August. There is no registration or application to be included in the summer meals programs.
