Vt. Students Receive Military Academy Recommendation

Some Vermont high school students hoping to serve in the military are one step closer to their dream.
MONTPELIER, Vt. - Some Vermont high school students hoping to serve in the military are one step closer to their dream.

At the state capitol Saturday, they received one of the best letters of recommendation possible. Vermont's congressional delegation gave nominations to 27 students who applied to go to a military academy.

The students need the nomination to be considered for acceptance.

3 of those 27 are high school seniors from Champlain Valley Union. They say the application process is nerve-wracking, so getting the nomination is a huge relief.

"It's nice to get recognition. I didn't think I was going to get one to be honest," says Owen Hudson, Air Force Academy nominee.

"It's a pretty cool honor because I know in other states it's pretty hard to get one and in Vermont it's just amazing that we can get here," says Will Colomb, Merchant Marine Academy nominee.

The students say they're hoping to hear if they've been accepted to the academy of their choice within the next few months.
