Wait! Make Sure That Water is Okay

Wait! Make Sure That Water is Okay

It's hot, time to take a dip, right? The health department is recommending you do one thing first.
Before you hop in the water read this! The Vermont Department of Health is urging you to know the water conditions and the dangers. The department encourages you to enjoy the *managed* beaches at state parks because they are some of the safest places to jump into the water and take a swim.

That's because the beaches are monitored and tested for bacteria and toxins from blue-green algae. There are signs posted at many managed swim areas, showing the levels of bacteria from recent tests. Private pond owners can test the water for bacteria, coliform bacterial contamination and cyanobacteria toxins. In order to do that you must purchase a kit from the health department lab and you can call 800-660-9997.
