Gov. Shumlin Hints at What's to Come in Wednesday's Budget Address

Governor Peter Shumlin gave a hint of what is to come in his budget address Wednesday.
BURLINGTON, Vt. - Gov. Peter Shumlin (D-Vt) gave a hint of what is to come in his budget address at a Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce breakfast Monday.

His address to the legislature is Wednesday.

A $70 million budget gap needs to be closed.

Gov. Shumlin says it'll happen by reducing spending, not by increasing taxes. He wants to remind everyone the state is weaning itself off of federal stimulus money given during the recession.

"So that's really the bulk of our challenge," Gov. Shumlin said. "My budget this year will make addition reductions in that one-time funding, so that we can be on a very responsible fiscal path going forward," he said.

Governor Shumlin's budget address is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
