BURLINGTON, Vt. - At least 5 little babies were born on Wednesday at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. But only one gets to be the year's first baby. That is little Jaelin Quachelle White.
Jaelin Quachelle White was destined to be a holiday baby.
"She was due the 29th of December. I knew she was going to be late. I was hoping for a New Years baby because that's like an awesome birthday, like you celebrate all night. That's pretty awesome" said her mother, Mariah Neverett.
"It's awesome. I was hoping for it. Now that it's happened, it feels so real,” said Jaelin’s father, Shilo White.
Now, moms, don't get too jealous, but after just 20 minutes of labor, Jaelin White arrived at 3:11 New Year's Day morning. At 21.5 inches and nearly 9 pounds, Jaelin is the Burlington area's first baby born in 2014.
“When I first looked at her, I started crying. It was real emotional for me,” said Mariah Neverett.
The Essex Junction couple, parents Mariah Neverett and Shilo White, now look forward to many months of sleepless nights and years of New Year’s birthday parties for their little New Year's gift.
“It's pretty cool, I'm proud,” said Neverett.
And in New Hampshire, Jaelin shares a birthday with little Rook Benjamin Whittaker. He was Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center's first 2014 baby. He was born to parents Sarah and David Whittaker at 9:20 Wednesday morning.
