New Year Starts with Chilly Run in Burlington, Vt.

Chilly weather did not stop people from getting a running start to the new year.
BURLINGTON, Vt. - Chilly weather did not stop people from getting a running start to the new year.

The 26th annual FirstRun 5k and fun runs took place in Burlington Wednesday. The temperature was around eleven degrees and the wind made it feel like the single digits.

But runners say it could have been worse and many were happy to be here, even in costume.

"It's such a fun event. Everybody is excited for the new year and it's just a geat way to start the year off right," says Ruth Blauwiekel, FirstRun participant.

Prizes were given out for the best costumes.

The run also collected donations for the Vermont WARMTH program which helps Vermonters in need heat their homes.
