New York State Issues State of Emergency

New York issued a state-wide state of emergency Thursday evening.
ALBANY, N.Y. - New York issued a state-wide state of emergency Thursday evening.

A press release says a major winter storm has already started bringing heavy snow, sub-zero temperatures, and high winds across the state.

"I strongly urge all New Yorkers to exercise caution, avoid travel, and stay indoors," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "To ensure an effective and rapid response to this winter storm, I am declaring a statewide state of emergency, so resources can get to communities where they are needed as quickly as possible."

New Yorkers are urged to avoid traveling and to stay inside in their homes until the storm has passed.
