NH Police Warning Over Phone Scam

New Hampshire State Police are warning over a phone scam targeting seniors.
KEENE, N.H - New Hampshire State Police are warning over a phone scam targeting seniors.

A press release says the scam has victimized elderly residents throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, resulting in losses of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Callers will claim the victim won the lottery and/or car and all the victim needs to do is pay a transfer fee to collect the winnings. Police say victims are being instructed to purchase prepaid money cards. The callers will then instruct the victim on where to find the cards, what card to purchase, and the amount of cash to load onto the card.

Contact your phone service provider, local authorities, or the Federal Trade Commission to report a potential scam.
