On the west side of the lake, Plattsburgh, NY was hit with some arctic temperatures on Thursday, dipping as low as negative double digits.
And some folks have to work in those bitter cold temperatures.
Christopher Jackson has been a USPS carrier for 15 years. So, when he sees a frigid cold forecast, he knows how to dress.
"Put on good long johns, good thermal underwear,” said Christopher Jackson, USPS carrier.
He walks 5-6 miles a day over as many hours. It's the Postal Service pledge, after all. Rain, sleet, snow or bitter cold, he's out there.
Jackson said, "I know it's a tradition, so most of us are pretty proud that we work, what we do. Probably 10 years ago, the whole month of February, we never got above zero. This year's been worse because of all the ice. It's been terrible, really hard on us,” said Jackson.
Peter Dame, has similar thoughts.
“I think it's terrible. I don't like it. You can't really shake it off. You go in the truck to have your lunch and you get warm but you're not warm enough,” said Peter Dame, with Plattsburgh’s Public Works Department.
He's roaming the streets of Plattsburgh on Thursday, picking up trash for the city's Public Works Department.
“I have like 4-5 layers on,” said Dame. So cold, that his trash froze
So while you're hiding out in your warm home, know there are people out there, braving the elements to make sure that life goes on as normal.
“I don't know why we live in this,” said Dame.
A big thank you to everyone who has to work outside and to everyone else, stay warm out there.
