Essex Parks and Recreation says a concerned park-goer found a trap in Indian Brook Park. The trap was found along the Outer Loop Trail.
ESSEX, Vt. - Essex Parks and Recreation says a concerned park-goer found a trap in Indian Brook Park. The trap was found along the Outer Loop Trail.

It was turned over to parks and recreation department and turns out it was properly tagged by its owner.

According to parks and recreation, they checked the rules and then passed the trap along to Essex police. While the trap was in the allowed perimeter for hunting and trapping within the park, the owner did not follow procedure for approval.

"We don't recommend shooting or hunting at the park, but it is allowed. Due to the usage of the park we highly recommend not to," said Ally Vile, Director of Essex Parks and Recreation.

If you want to hunt or trap in the park, you need approval from the selectboard and Department of Fish and Wildlife. You also need to notify the landowner.

No word on if the trapper will face any penalties for not following procedure.
