Police: Man Arrested After Winooski Chase

What first started out as a traffic stop, ended in a high speed chase Friday night.

Winooski Police say they were helping state police with a traffic stop, around 7 Friday night on LeClair Street.

The driver was outside talking with officers, when Chief Steve McQueen says the passenger, Tyshawn Mack, got into the driver's seat and took off. He sped south onto Main street into the Winooski rotary. Police say he even hit other cars on West Canal Street before stopping.

Mack then took off running, police caught up with him behind the Woolen Mill Apartments, where they say Mack resisted arrest, and was taken into custody after being tased.

Police say Mack, of Boston, goes by other aliases, and at first, told them a different name.

McQueen says Mack was a fugitive from justice wanted by the NYPD for burglary.

No one else was hurt.
