Police: Readsboro Principal Stole Students' Lunch Money

The Readsboro School Principal is being charged with embezzlement, forgery, and petit larceny after stealing from the school from May 2013 to December 2013.
READSBORO, Vt. - The Readsboro School Principal is being charged with embezzlement, forgery, and petit larceny after stealing from the school from May 2013 to December 2013.

Police say 40-year-old Michael Heller embezzled $4,000 worth of grant money awarded to the school for his personal use. He used money that was supposed to be used for school related items on hotel stays, meals, and other shopping.

Police say Heller submitted self-manufactured lists of transactions in an attempt to cover his illegal activities. He is also accused of stealing more than $200 worth of money that was intended for student lunches.

Heller turned himself into the Vermont State Police on Monday. He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Bennington Criminal Court at the end of January.
