Police say Man Dies in Snowmobile, Tractor Trailer Crash

Vermont State Police say a Benson man is dead after a snowmobile crash Sunday.
BENSON, Vt. - Vermont State Police say a Benson man is dead after a snowmobile crash Sunday.

Police say the man was 48-year-old Mark Lussier.

They says Lussier was riding on the snowmobile with a ten-year-old boy. The boy was in front and was being instructed how to use the snowmobile by Lussier.

Police say for some reason the snowmobile hit a snow embankment near Route 22A. The snowmobile went airborne and hit a passing tractor trailer truck.

The crash forced the road to be closed for several hours.

Police say Lussier, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. They say the boy, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center then flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He had internal injuries as well as injuries to his lower body.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation but police say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
