Police: Students Set Off Smoke Bombs Inside Mount Lake Academy

New York State Police say two students set off smoke bombs inside Mount Lake Academy Sunday night.
NORTH ELBA, N.Y. - New York State Police say two students set off smoke bombs inside Mount Lake Academy Sunday night. This happened at around 7:45 p.m. 


The smoke bombs burned a portion of a carpet inside the school. A 14-year-old student and 16-year-old Elwood Verity III are also accused of attacking staff members at the Academy.

Police are withholding the name of the 14-year-old student due to his age.

The 14-year-old student is being charged with 2nd degree arson, 4th degree conspiracy, and resisting arrest. He was remanded to the Capital District Secure Juvenile Facility in Albany, N.Y.

Verity was charged with 2nd degree arson, 3rd degree assault, 4th degree conspiracy, resisting arrest, and unlawful possession of fireworks. He was remanded to the Essex County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond.
