Police: Wanted Man Steals Police Cruiser and Crashes

Police say wanted man stole a police cruiser and crashed it Sunday night.
ST. ALBANS, Vt. - Police say a wanted man stole a police cruiser and crashed it Sunday night.

Roger Patenaude, 34, of St. Albans, was wanted on an arrest warrant. When a police officer tried to confront him, Patenaude took off running. He then jumped into an unlocked and running police cruiser.

Police say the officer stood in front of the vehicle to try and get him to stop, but he hit the officer. Patenaude lead police on a two mile chase through St. Albans.

Patenaude eventually crashed the car and was arrested. He faces a slew of new charges including aggravated assault on an officer.

The officer has been treated and was released from the hospital.

Patenaude is due in court on Monday.
