Questions of Owership of the Berlin Pond

Now the latest about the controversy surrounding the Berlin Pond and who owns nearby land.
BERLIN, Vt. - Now the latest about the controversy surrounding the Berlin Pond and who owns nearby land.

The land around the Berlin Pond is owned by the town of Berlin and the city of Montpelier.

There's been questions about a stretch of land.

Berlin wants it to build a parking lot and as a place for people to enter the pond. Attorneys told the town selectboard last week, early indications say, it's theirs.

If Berlin owns the land, it needs the state to build and maintain the access point.

"There's always the possibility that the town could do it, but the town of Berlin currently does not have the personnel or the resources to actually build and maintain such a facility," Jeff Schulz, Berlin Town Administrator, said.

Town leaders have been asked to meet with Vermont Fish and Wildlife to discuss future plans.
