Remembering Martin Luther King at the ECHO Center

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Monday is a federal holiday to honor civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.

People packed the ECHO Center to remember Dr. King.

A local hip hop group Africa to Vermont performed. Joining in the fun were Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger and Vermont's Governor Peter Shumlin.

Shumlin says Monday's festivities were all about how far the nation has come.

"Martin Luther King's birthday is a reminder for all of us in Vermont that we have come a long way but we still have a long way to go," Shumlin said. "What Martin Luther King was really about was racial justice and economic justice."

The celebration at ECHO was just one of many across the region.
