Safety Tips on Buying Gifts for Children This Holiday Season

If you're shopping for a child this holiday season you're certainly not alone!
WASHINGTON - If you're shopping for a child this holiday season you're certainly not alone!

The consumer product safety commission says everyone needs to be extra vigilant in what they buy for kids. Some toys can be a safety hazard for children and can cause serious injuries.

"We've had one hundred and ninety two thousand hospital emergency room injuries and also riding toys are also leading product that cause those hospital emergency room visits," Nikki Fleming, Senior Consumer Product Safety Commission, said. "So consumers want to take safety precautions by adding the safety gear to the product they may be purchasing."

The commission recommends parents and loved ones stay away from buying toys with small parts or magnets. If swallowed, these can cause a child to choke or hurt them internally.
