PITTSFIELD, Vt. - This Wednesday morning we are beginning a new weekly segment called epic eats. You'll see a new segment each Wednesday on our morning show. FOX44 and ABC 22 Meteorologist Steve Glazier will be the star and he'll be attempting eating challenges!

Just to let you know I have done several eating challenges in the past so I figure I am a good candidate to showcase the local epic eats!  We'll be starting with breakfast today, my favorite meal of the day, here it is!

I'm in Pittsfield, Vermont, home of the Spartan Race Series, where I'm happy to say I've completed two of them in the past two years. I've got my attire on and now it's time to put my belly to the test at the Original General Store. I'm going to attempt the Green Mountain feast, a meal three to four times the size of a normal breakfast.

"So I'll take the scrambled egg option," Glazier said. This day I take my eggs scrambled, all six of them, alongside four pieces of toast, homefries, six bacon strips, six pancakes, and six pieces of french toast.

"It was to see who could enjoy what we call that good old Vermont country breakfast, only this is a Vermont country breakfast quadrupled," Leeann Isaacson, Original General Store Operations Manager, said.

The store has only offered this challenge for a few years, a small fraction of the store's history spanning generations as a Pittsfield staple.
The prize you wonder? The meal is on the house and a t-shirt for documentation.

"I'm just trying to work my way to a 30" waist," John Stuppy, Original General Store Cook, said. He'll be trying this challenge with Peter Borden one of the managers!

"John and I have always thought about getting into competitive eating and this seemed like a really good opportunity to go up against a champ!" Borden said.

Champ huh? Now I have to live up to that expectation!

"This year I've seen two or three people finish...out of six or seven people who have taken the challenge," Stuppy said.

Before i know it, I'm saying and sighing "oh my."

It's time to begin. I start hungry digging right in, the food tastes great. The size rather intimidating. My strategy is to eat eggs first, save the sweets for last.

"We've gone about 4.5 minutes and I've probably gotten through about half my eggs and some homefries on this...at least two person meal...we'll see."

Five minutes in, still strong. Ten minutes, still steady. We're 11 minutes in and I'm going into the carbs. Pancake time, I remember what Leeann told me.

"Our buttermilk pancake batter is made from scratch, they're fluffy...I don't care how much maple syrup you drown on them it's really hard to get them down after everything else you've eaten," Isaacson said.

How true.

Nine minutes left....sigh....not much room left. Time continues to tick.

"I am stuffed to the rim, " Glazier said.
Five minutes left, I make little progress

Then the timer rings and the time has ended, the sound of failure.

I ate all but three pancakes and two french toast...

I didn't finish this one. Neither did my challengers John and peter!

As for the t-shirt I still got it, but with proof I didn't finish it.
