SURPRISE! Spaulding High School Teacher Wins Educator Award

Spaulding High School English and Language Arts Teacher Katie Sedore was surprised Friday to win the $25,000 Milken Educator Award.
BARRE, Vt. - Spaulding High School English and Language Arts Teacher Katie Sedore was surprised Friday to win the $25,000 Milken Educator Award.

A press release says Governor Shumlin presented the award at a school-wide assembly.

"With research confirming that effective teachers represent the single most important school-related factor in raising student achievement, it is important to honor them, learn from them, and inspire more capable people to enter the profession," said Lowell Milken, chairman and co-founder of the Milken Family Foundation.

The award is the only one presented in Vermont and is presented to 40 of America's outstanding secondary school educators.

FOX 44 and ABC 22 reporter Staci DaSilva was there and will have Sedore's reaction to the award Friday night on ABC 22 at 6,7 and FOX 44 at 10 p.m.
