Watch: Blind Basketball Player Makes Shot

A heartwarming end to a basketball game in Saint Albans as two teams come together to help a blind boy make a shot.
SAINT ALBANS, Vt. - Meet Alek Wolfe, an energetic eighth grader at Saint Albans City School. He's competed in cross country events, manages the boys basketball team, and even provides color commentary during the games. He’s also blind. He never thought he'd play for the team he loves, but that's exactly what happened Thursday night.

"It was nothing that I was expecting," Wolfe said. His coach Scott surprised him by asking if he wanted to inbound a play.

"So he comes over, ‘would that be awesome?’ I looked at him and said yes. He told me you're going to be in the books, if you score a point this place is going to go absolutely nuts. For him to do that for me is a big honor,” Wolfe said.

"I went into the game with strategy; the feeling about this was that I was pumped. I was nervous, I was excited about it."

With the cameras rolling, Alek got the ball. His first shot looped out. Second attempt, not quite. Then the third try was a charm!

The response: unbelievable.

"I’m proud of you, I’m proud of you Alek, nice job," yelled the coach after the shot went in.

"I had total faith in Alek, from the start of the game, I knew he could do it," his teammate Keenan said.

After Alek’s lucky basket both teams, and the crowd, went home feeling electrified and feeling like they were part of something truly magical.

"It was awesome, electrifying. I have to say it was one of the best moments of my career,” Wolfe said.

Even the boys from opposing Alburg felt the excitement pulsing through the gym.

"The rest of the game just kind of went like a regular basketball game, except there was something more special about it,” Alburg player Jacob Newman said.

Alek says he hopes to inbound another play soon, and maybe, score another basket. For now he's just soaking in the excitement.

"I want to thank everyone that was there last night, it’s a night I’ll never forget....wow,” Wolfe said.

Alek invites everyone to the last two home games of the season. The next one is Monday night.
