Weather Impacts American Red Cross

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Red Cross says its blood supply is thousands of pints short because of the arctic blast hitting the country.

The Red Cross says 125 blood drives across 17 states including Vermont have had to be cancelled. That's left the Red Cross down 4,000 pints of blood and platelet donations.

"It's easy to do and I feel good while I am doing it and afterwards. Where the blood is going, where it's needed and it's so simple why shouldn't you if you can?" says Mike Gauding, who was donating in Burlington.

At this point, the Red Cross says it can meet the demands of hospitals. But it's still encouraging people to give blood or platelets if they can.
