Weather School: Freezing Rain

Meteorologist Michael Page explains what causes freezing rain.
Following a touch of freezing rain locally before Thanksgiving, and a 50 car pile up in Massachusetts caused by icy roads, Meteorologist Michael Page explains freezing rain in this week's weather school.

He says freezing rain is precipitation that starts in the clouds as snow. The snow then falls through a warm layer turning it to rain. A thin layer of freezing air right at the surface causes that rain to freeze on contact.

If you have a question you'd like answered in Weather School, which airs each Sunday night at 10 PM on FOX 44, e-mail Michael (mpage@fox44now.com).
