You Paid For It: Tax Exemptions and The Education Fund

Vermont lawmakers are looking for ways to fill the gap in the state's education fund. Right now there's a $70 million difference between the projected budget for next year and what the state has to pay for it.

That means either school budgets need to be cut or property taxes could go up.

But a special committee is looking into a certain group of businesses that currently doesn't have to pay property taxes to see if they could help. To help fund public high schools the state might eventually start taxing universities.
