Mike Hoey is a Morning Anchor for Local 22 & Local 44.
Where did you grow up?
Holyoke, Massachusetts, about 10 miles north of Springfield. I-91 passes right through Holyoke, so it’s easy to visit home from here!
Where did you attend school?
Where have you worked previously?
My first job was as a newscast producer at WWLP in Springfield, one of the stations where I interned in college. After a break from the news business, my first on-camera job took me to WBUP in Marquette, Michigan — Lake Superior was a half-mile from my door and it led to nasty winters! I was there for nearly ten years as a reporter, anchor, producer and news director. Before coming here, I most recently worked for WUTR/WFXV in Utica, New York as the main male anchor for both stations.
What are your hobbies?
There are few things in life I enjoy as much as putting my feet up and lowering my nose into a good book; I’m always interested in finding something new to read. Some of my other interests include trivia games, card games and singing — during my years in Michigan, I was once part of a bar band and some people knew me better for that than they did for my news job!
What are your favorite sports teams?
I have to admit that I don’t pay nearly as much attention to sports as I once did, but when I do, my favorites are still the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, Patriots, my BU Terriers (sorry, UVM fans!) and the UMass Minutemen.
What is your favorite food?
This is impossible to narrow down — I love to eat! Indian food has always been very high on my list. Crawfish etoufee is way up there, too, ever since my parents exposed me as a child to Louisiana Cajun cooking.
What is one thing you would put on a “bucket list”?
I’ve visited New Orleans but have never been there for Mardi Gras! A Mardi Gras trip comes immediately to mind.
