A 12 year old in Plattsburgh is doing his part to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Matthew Chec decided to help those in Texas while following in the footsteps of his brother and friends.
“12 years ago for Hurricane Katrina they went around with a wagon,” Matthew said. “There’s another hurricane that was really bad, so I thought I should go around asking for donations.”
Matthew was also inspired by his own experiences. He was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease as well as Chronic Intestinal Pseudo Obstruction.
“I get sick a lot and people sometimes really help me out so I thought that I should help people out,” he said.
Matthew’s medical conditions haven’t affected his heart of gold. He hooked up the wagon to his power chair and hit the neighborhood to ask for donations.
“If I was in a situation like the people in Texas I would want people to help me out,” Matthew said.
Matthew was happy to say he collected many canned good and raised about $150 for the American Red Cross.
