2017 Green Up Vermont Day is This Saturday

Green Up Vermont is happening on Saturday, May 6.

It’s a day for Vermonters to help clean up litter from roadsides and public areas.

According to a media release, the first Green Up Vermont Day was started in 1970 by Governor Deane Davis.

The group Green Up Vermont gives out over 50,000 trash bags to Vermont towns that participate.

“Each of Vermont’s two hundred and fifty-one towns carries out a Green Up Day in their community,” says Melinda Vieux, President of Green Up Vermont.

Officials say the event is funded by donations, online and from tax returns.

“It is a lovely time for residents across the generations to meet, mix and mingle,” says Hartland Town Coordinator Ginny White.
