PLATTSBURGH, NY. – The town of Plattsburgh has found a creative way to get kids and families out to the parks this summer.
The parks and recreation department is putting on an event called “Unlock the Parks.”
20 keys were hidden in 10 different parks. Kids between the ages of 5 and 13 can then bring a key to the planning department.
One lucky winner will find a key that unlocks a brand new bike.
However, the winner has been found. Elijah Mccauslin is the proud owner of new wheels.
The planning department says Elijah needed a new bike too, because he outgrew his old one.
This program is keeping kids and their families in motion.
“This is a digital age, people are really attached to their devices and we really wanted to encourage you know get out and be healthy and promote that kind of community sense that happens when people get out and get engaged with their environment,” said Trevor Cole, the senior planner for the town of Plattsburgh.
While the winning key was found, there are still keys out there. Kids can still win a free pair of sunglasses and ice cream coupons.
