Bennington Police reach out with “Operation Copsicle”

News

Facing controversy for its handling of reports of racial harassment of former State Rep. Kiah Morris, the Bennington Police Department is trying to connect more with the community.

The department just announced the start of Operation Copsickle. Chief Paul Doucette said officers handed out more than 300 free popsicles at Bennington’s Battle Day Parade.

The community has helped raise $50,000 in two months to add an ice cream truck to this operation.

The outreach efforts were inspired by the Pittsfield Police Departme, which launched an Operation Copsicle in 2018. The community kicked in to help the program, raising $50,000 in two months for an ice cream truck.

Doucette says that the Bennington copsicle program is improving the relationship between the public and police.
