Big Change Roundup preliminary total outpaces last year, brings in $331,757 so far

The largest fundraiser of the year for University of Vermont Children’s Hospital ended Monday with a coin collection event at the hospital in Burlington.

The combined efforts of hundreds of people, businesses, schools and community organizations from throughout Vermont and northern New York resulted this year in a preliminary total of $331,757.12 in the “Big Change Roundup for Kids”, a new high for a last-day total.

The Roundup is the largest fundraiser each year for the hospital, and this is the largest preliminary total in the 13-year history of the event, outpacing last year’s mark of $314,600.

The three-month long coin collecting campaign is a joint project of the UVM Children’s Hospital and 98.9 WOKO-FM, with support from hundreds of local businesses and community groups and thousands of volunteers from throughout the region.

Sponsors this year included Maplefields, New England Federal Credit Union, Walmart, TC’s RV’s, The Edge Kids and Fitness, and McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli Meats.

Donations typically continue to come in for a few weeks after the conclusion of the campaign.

A final tally will become available sometime in early April.
