In Safety Matters, the Burlington Fire Department is now taking advantage of some new-to-them technology to help keep you safe.  BFD has a fleet of new iPads they’re using the new tech to collect data and map city owned buildings.  Fire Chief Steve Locke says the hand-held devices will give fire fighter pre-arrival information about the building and area they’re responding too.  They’ll have better information on nearest fire-hydrants, and best access points into buildings.

“It’s all about us arriving and mitigating a problem as quickly as we can.  So if we can partner with our citizens, and the more information we have the better we can do our job, and the more quickly we can make their lives better,” said Chief Locke.

The Chief says the iPads will help the department better utilize their resources.  That data collected is being sent back out to iPads in the field in real time.
