Wednesday, Burlington Police Department says it received numerous telephone fraud complaints.

According to the complainants, an unknown male was claiming to be the police advising the person on the phone they owed $10,000, and a warrant was out for their arrest.

Police say the victims reported they would then be “transferred to a Lieutenant” and were advised police would be at their residence in three minutes unless they paid the money immediately.

Burlington Police want to remind you officers will never contact you regarding money or pending legal action.

If you received a call like this, you’re asked to call Burlington Police Department to report it.

Wednesday, UVM Police reported a similar scam.
