Two months after opening its door in Grand Isle, Champlain Islands Candy Lab is growing its business.
Saturday kicked off the first day of a partnership between the Candy Lab and Keeler’s Variety Store in South Hero.
Albert Reyes-McCarver owns Champlain Islands Candy Lab with his husband.
“We had a great friendship and relationship with the owners just being shoppers here,” Reyes-McCarver said.
On Saturday, they let customers try free samples including Bill Harford from West Chazy, NY. Harford stops into Keeler’s every time he passes through.
“Only tried a couple of different types,” Harford said. “I’m afraid that if I stood there too long I’d try them all. I’m not trying to spoil my lunch.”
Reyes-McCarver said he hopes to bring more attention to the Islands of Lake Champlain.
“We moved up here about four years ago,” he said. “We were working full time in corporate America. We moved up here from New York City and we found and discovered the Islands and we thought ‘God what a great place’ and we thought what a better way to start a food business than it to be about the community that we’ve moved into that we love.”
