For some drivers, finding the right parking space can be a headache. The city of Plattsburgh is looking to relieve some of the “pain” as part of its downtown revitalization project. A consulting firm has been hired to assess current parking…And help plan for future needs.
Many residents we spoke to today had very strong opinions on the parking situation here in downtown.
Sharene wood is a Plattsburgh resident. She says “I think honestly it’s very terrible in Plattsburgh”
She also says there are some areas to avoid at all costs. “If you’re smart you wouldn’t park anywhere on Margret Street or Brinkerhoff Street”
I spoke with Sammich Shop, a business on Margaret Street. The assistant manager, Jaclyn Wenninger, believes they’re losing customers. “We don’t have room for people to park in front of the shop so they have to park distant and then they end up going somewhere else”
Wenninger comes to the area from New York City, where she says people expect to have trouble finding a space. “So New York city I’m use to all of that but in a small town I’m not. You don’t see all of that usually”
Sharene Wood says that “Plattsburg needs to you know step it up”
A public forum was held this evening at the Plattsburgh Public Library to get the community’s input on what should be done.
A final recommendation for any changes will come afterwards.
