Education leaders want a say in funding issues

Education leaders gathered at the Statehouse Tuesday to make sure they have a say in conversations about education funding in the final days of the legislative session.
They say lawmakers often address critical funding issues behind closed doors.
Now, they’re calling on Governor Phil Scott and elected officials to give them a seat at the table when it comes to decisions that impact the students they work with every day.
“Just as we expect our educators to not take a one size fits all approach to educating children, so too should our elected officials recognize that the solutions to our demographic and fiscal challenges require attention to the varying needs of Vermont’s school communities.” Said Martha Allen, President of the Vermont NEA.
Teachers say they share a common goal with lawmakers in wanting to reach the best resolution for students.
