Imagine being pulled over by police, and having your Christmas presents taken away.
That’s what happened to an 80 year-old couple traveling for the holiday, but there’s more to the story.
Authorities say Patrick Jiron, 83, and his wife, Barbara, 80, were pulled over in York, Nebraska.
When officers said they smelled marijuana, the couple admitted they were carrying contraband.
That’s when police found 60 pounds of marijuana in their car, along with several containers of concentrated THC.
The couple said they planned to “distribute the marijuana to family and friends as Christmas gifts.”
According to a report from NPR, they were heading to Boston and Vermont.
They were cited on charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver and for not having a drug tax stamp.
Barbara was not arrested, but Patrick was — he’s now out on bond.
Police say the marijuana had an estimated street value of over $300,000.
