Opponents of the F-35 fighter jets coming to Burlington International Airport took their concerns to Sen. Patrick Leahy’s office Tuesday.
They gathered at his downtown Burlington office late in the afternoon.
Two of them tell us they weren’t actually allowed inside the office; a staff member spoke with them in the hallway instead.
What would they have said to the senator himself, had he been there?
“When 80% of people at South Burlington city meetings say they don’t want that plane based there, and you still recommend it being based, you’re not listening to the people,” Carmine Sargent of South Burlington said. “You’re doing it for other reasons.”
The F-35s are still scheduled to arrive by the end of this month.
