Family in Milton displaced by fire

A fire in Milton has left a family of five homeless.

Milton Fire Chief Don Turner said crews were called to a single-family home on Trayah Drive early Friday. No one was injured, however, Turner said three out of the four family pets were rescued.

Turner said it took 15 minutes to put out the fire.

“The owner woke up to a cracking noise. She didn’t say if the (smoke) detectors were going off,” said Turner. “We didn’t hear them, but the fire was really in the house; there wasn’t a lot of smoke in there at the time.”

Turner said an investigator deemed the fire accidental, and the cause appears to be improperly disposed smoking material on the home’s front porch.

Turner said there was significant heat and water damage to the home, however, a lot of personal property was saved.
