Film Festival Comes to Burlington to Support Young Girls

Lunafest , a traveling film festival, complete with award winning and inspiring short films, is coming to Burlington, Vermont on Saturday, Oct. 7.

This year, Lunafest is being hosted by Girls on the Run Vermont. Karen Newman, a world-class triathlete will be the guest speaker this year. Newman is a cancer and eating disorder survivor, author and dietitian. 

The funds raised from the event will benefit the Every Girl Fund, which helps ensure more girls and future leaders of Vermont have access to an after-school empowerment program. The event is also being held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so a portion of the ticket sales will also be donated to breast Cancer Prevention Partners, working on research methods to prevent the disease. 

“Our mission is to empower our young girls to have the self-confidence and spark to shape their own story, much the way these women filmmakers have done,” Nancy Heydinger, the Executive Director for Girls on the Run Vermont said.
