Rob Gronkowski is getting into the CBD business.
The retired Patriot’s tight end announced a partnership with CBDMedic, a Woonsocket, Rhode Island cannabidiol company, Tuesday in New York City.
Gronkowski, a five-time Pro Bowler who announced his retirement in March after nine seasons in NFL, said he is teaming up with the company on a line of “all-natural, fitness-oriented recovery products.”
Gronk said he started using CBD after his retirement, and now he wants the NFL to allow active players to use it.
“I’m advocating for CBD to be acceptable for all players for recovery,” the three-time Super Bowl champion said, adding “You can just call me Mr. Recovery.”
Proponents of CBD say it can help athletes with pain, inflammation and even traumatic brain injuries. But because of CBD’s close relationship with its cousin, THC — the psychoactive drug in cannabis — CBD has seen itself banned in many pro sports venues.
Unlike THC, however, pure CBD oil does not produce the euphoric “high” in its users.
