For people considering adopting a cat, a recently reopened animal shelter in St. Albans, Vt. could be the place.
Franklin County Animal Rescue reopened this week after closing in the spring due to financial struggles.
Even while it was closed, shelter employees say, more than 100 cats were dropped off.
Twenty more are expected to arrive over the next week.
An adopt-a-thon was held Saturday to make room.
“We’re getting more and more cats in every day, the good news is that we’ve had people coming in for adoptions too,” said Karen Taylor Mitchell, with Franklin County Animal Rescue. “It was really exciting when we reopened on Thursday and right away four cats went out the door and that was wonderful.”
To manage care, the Rescue enacted a new policy that animals can only be accepted by appointment.
The shelter is located at 30 Sunset Meadows, St Albans City, Vt.
