Green Mountain Power says its repairing thousands of outages after strong winds swept through the northeast.

According to a media release, as of Thursday morning, 5,700 homes across Vermont were still without power.  Officials say most of the outages were in Southern Vermont.

“Our crews were ready and deployed around the state and they responded as the winds started.  They will work as quickly and safely as possible to make repairs,” said Kristin Carlson, GMP’s Vice President of External Affairs.

“All of our neighboring states were hit hard and are experiencing extensive outages from this storm. Our advanced preparation is helping us restore power quickly in Vermont,” added Carlson.

GMP says if you see downed power lines or downed trees to stay away as they could contain live wires.
