**UPDATE: Governor Phil Scott says he will allow the current budget proposal to become law without his signature.

In a statement Monday night, the Governor says he does not suppport a tax hike, but “will not put the health and safety of Vermonters or the stability of our economy at risk”.

If the budget bill hadn’t been signed by July 1st, Vermont’s government would have shut down.

The new budget will allow an increase in the nonresidential property tax rate set annually by state law.
