Late last night, Grand Isle Sheriff’s Department reported it was investigating a death in Alburgh.
Law Enforcement officials say they were contacted around 1:30 yesterday afternoon by 911 about a victim who went unresponsive in the water near poor farm road.
They say at this stage in the investigation, the victim, 64 year-old Stephen Thomas, was attempting to locate moorings to attach buoys to.
While he was wearing diving equipment, officials say he was not completely immersed in the water when he went unresponsive.
People nearby saw this, and one person swam to help Thompson and started performing CPR until first responders arrived.
Thompson was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Vermont State Police and the Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate.
