The Hardwick man accused of holding police at bay for several hours while locked in his home with a gun and a baby, pleaded not guilty to one count of domestic assault Tuesday.
Kelly Howard, 34, was arraigned in Caledonia County Superior Court and released on conditions.
Howard is accused of putting his arm around a woman’s throat, before throwing her to the ground and locking her out of the house. The woman told police Howard had been drinking.
When police arrived, Howard, who had a gun and a nine-month old baby inside, refused to leave the house. State police hostage negotiators were called in.
The standoff, which shut down Route 16, lasted several hours before Howard was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries.
