Burlington Fire Department is asking you to help them take care of hydrants this winter.
Senior Firefighter Nathan Perkins said fire hydrants will occasionally freeze during the extreme cold. However, a more common problem are hydrants buried by snow.
To help out fire officials ask if you notice a buried hydrant to dig it out. It helps crews access them quickly in the event of an emergency.
“If that hydrant is already available then it might only take one person to set up a water supply verses taking three or four to dig through a 6 foot snow bank to find it,” Perkins said.
Hydrants are marked with flags to help firefighter locate them if buried by the snow.
