You may notice some new bike barriers installed on North Ave. in Burlington,Vt. just one of many new things.
The Department of Public Works says construction wrapped up last week on a pilot project which reduces the lanes on the busy roadway. It also added new barriers for bike lanes near Burlington High School, separating bicyclists from drivers.
There’s also a new video detection system installed above the traffic lights to keep cars moving.
“So it basically looks at the cue of cars coming down North Avenue and it tries to sense how long that cue [line] is. And if it looks like a long cue and it is needs to keep that light green, it recognizes that,” Project Manager Nicole Losch said.
Officials will be studying the impacts of the changes over the next few weeks.
Folks from public works will also be at the local ward meeting on July 27th, so residents can share their thoughts on the pilot project.
